Module Introduction

In this module, you will use applications like word processors, spreadsheets, and databases to develop computer-based solutions for real-life problems. These tools help solve everyday problems and improve productivity. Over five weeks, you’ll learn to create well-formatted documents, perform data calculations, and organize information using these programs. Mastering these skills makes schoolwork easier (for example, writing reports or calculating budgets) and prepares you for further study and the workplace.

Instructional Design Model Used

This module is designed using the Backward Design Model, a framework developed by Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe (2005) that emphasizes teaching for understanding and intentional curriculum design. Rather than starting with activities or textbook content, Backward Design starts with the end in mind—what learners should know, understand, and be able to do by the end of the module. The process follows three key stages:

Identify Desired Results
Clear module outcomes are established, aligned with the CAPS curriculum. These outcomes reflect the core skills and knowledge learners are expected to achieve by the end of the six weeks.

Determine Acceptable Evidence
Assessments (both formative and summative) are developed to measure learners’ progress toward the outcomes. These include real-world tasks, interactive activities, and teacher-guided evaluations that align with the module goals.

Plan Learning Experiences and Instruction
Lessons, activities, and tools are designed to support the achievement of the outcomes and prepare learners to demonstrate mastery in the assessments. These experiences are interactive, contextual, and scaffolded to promote engagement and understanding.
This intentional approach ensures alignment between outcomes, assessments, and instruction, making learning more focused, meaningful, and measurable

Module Outcomes

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

Assessment Integration

Assessment is woven into learning to support your progress. You will complete formative tasks (such as quizzes and interactive exercises) during each topic to practice and check your understanding. We use interactive H5P activities – like quizzes, videos, and drag-and-drop tasks – to make learning engaging and give you immediate feedback. At the end of each two-week topic, there will be a summative assessment (such as a test or project) to evaluate your overall learning. Your teacher will review your work and provide feedback throughout the module, helping you know what you’ve mastered and how to improve. (YOU WILL SUBMIT THE PROJECTS ON YOUR GOOGLE CLASSROOM, SO THAT YOUR TEACHER CAN ACCESS THEM)

Module Duration & Structure

The module spans Five weeks, with each topic covered over two weeks:
- Week 1: Word Processing
- Week 2-3: Spreadsheets
- Week 4-5: Databases

 Each topic contains:
- Video tutorials
- Interactive H5P learning activities
- A formative quiz
- A summative practical task with a memorandum (STRICTLY FOR TEACHERS)
